Hey everyone,
These are not going to be in any order per se.
This first post is about the Baroness Collection. A few years ago now I wove a shawl for Murienne when she stepped down as Baroness of the Citadel of the Southern Pass. So for Kingdom A&S this year I did the Baroness Collection. A shawl for each of the past Baronesses of the Citadel.
Mistress Monika von Zell, Founding Baroness, got an alpaca shawl with a variegated green warp and a gold weft. It was threaded as a point twill, the treadles were tied up for a 3/1 twill, and it was woven off in a diamond pattern. Width is about 24" and length is right at 3 yards.

Duchess Morgana, 2nd Baroness' shawl is not done yet.
Baroness Signy von Velden , 3rd Baroness, is wool sensitive, so I made her shawl from cotton. The warp is Green and black stripes with a white weft. It looks a lot like chocolate-mint hard candles.

Viscountess Charitee Julienne duBois, 4th Baroness, shawl is a log cabin weave with red and gold in the warp and the weft. This was only the second time I worked with multiple shuttles and the first it felt comfortable. I feel that of the collection this is the most striking, which is ironic as teh Viscountess has not been heard of since the mid-90's. I'm still deciding what to do with it.

Naquiba(Viscountess) Bahiyyah bint Suhayl, 5th Baroness of the Citadel. Her shawl was designed to match Viscount Berold's templar wrap, which I posted about earlier. It is white alpaca in the warp and weft, although I did add a red border to it. I included the minor threading fault I had in Berold's on purpose, so they would have that in common.

Mistress Leah de Montgomerie of Lark Hall, 6th and current (10th) Baroness. Her shawl is all wool in a 2/2 twill pattern with a white warp and a blue weft. I chose the 2/2 twill for Leah and she is always coming at things from a bit of a slant.
Mistress Constance Warrock de Winandemere, 7th Baroness. Her colors are also blue and white, so I wove her shawl on the same warp as Leah's. For her I chose a broken twill, to differentiate her shawl from Leah's are since there is a pattern in it, but you have to get to know it before it is plain to see. This also wove up about twice as dense as the others on this warp, which is why it appears to be a bit darker.
Baroness Muireann Ghlass inghean Faolan, 8th Baroness. Hers was the first shawl I wove for a Baroness of the Citadel and the reaction to it was part of the inspiration for this series. Hers is a point twill with a green warp and a blue weft.

Baroness Aine inghean Cormac, 9th Baroness. Her shawl is also blue and white, woven on the same white warp with Mistress Leah and Constance's. I chose plain weave for her mainly as a differentiation and as I find her to be a very calming person to be around.

And so, with the exception of Duchess Morgana, this is the Baroness Collection. I hope to add some additional pictures as the shawls are delivered.

I can't believe it has been ten months since I posted here. I have been doing a lot of weaving, but I also finished my second Masters (Public Administration), got a new job (Head, Acquisitions, New Mexico State University), moved (from El Paso, TX to Las Cruces, NM) into a bigger apartment where I will actually have space for a studio (by sacrificing the dinning room and the living room). Bought a new loom (8 shaft, 60 in wide Countryside Loom, made by Green Tree Farms up in Colorado Springs, CO.
So I"m going to be doing a whole flurry of posts here over the next couple of days and maybe even a poll.
Keep the fibre going.

Here is the second part of the Silver Mist project. This is a shawl that worked out to about 22 inches wide and about 60 or so inches wide.

The weave structure was a broken twill.

And this is Silver Mist.

This is the Von Natterhelm Shawl.
It is 100% cotton made by Araucania Yarns. This yarn is handspun and dyed in Chile. Since it is hand-dyed it is a little veregated.
The warp is yellow/Gold
The weft is red
Sett is 8 epi/picks were 6 to 8
I also used a floating warp on each side.
Weave structure is a 2/2 semi-broken twill.

Again, I"ll add some better pictures when I have access to a camera.

This is the first part of my Silver Mist project.
Silver Mist is an award winning alpaca at La Buena Vida Alpaca farm in Anthony NM. I was able to buy up enough yarn spun from last years shearing to make this scarf and a shawl. The shawl will be going on the loon next week so I can weave on it at the Fiber Fiesta at La Buena Vida on April 17th. I hope to get a picture of the pieces on Silver Mist before they shear her for this year.
Warp is 10/2 crochett cotton
Weft is handspun alpaca. It is spun to 6 to 8 wpi.
Weaving is sett at 8 epi
This is a weft faced 2/2 twill
Width is 6.25 inches
Length is 62 inches

More pictures when I have access to a camera.

Last weekend I got some wonderful alpaca from The Studio at La Buena Vida Alpacas, spun by one of our local spinners. A bit ovre 700 yds from a single shearing of Silver Mist, a beautiful silver/grey alpaca. I got enough that I can do a matching scarf and shawl out of it.
Since I want this to be weft faced, I used an 8//2 cotton warp with a sett of 4 epi.
I knew it would be tricky when I broke 4 warp threads in the first inch. So I lightened up by tension. Then, nine inches into the scarf, I broke all but 8 warp threads, AT THE APRON ROD. Soooooooo, I guess that 8/2 cotton is not a good warp for me to use as my current skill level, if ever.
Maybe Tencel?

and off the loom.

and a close-up

This project was done with Berroco Ultra Alpaca (50% Alpaca and 50% Wool). The Sett was 8 epi and the picks were between 8 and 10 depending on my beat. As mentioned in my last post, this was a double weave project and i ended up have three weaving errors on the bottom level, where I couldn't see them until I took it off the loom. <Sigh> They aren't too bad, I hope. Also had one threading error (note to self, remember to intersperse empty heddles throughout the harnesses) that I can explain as a feature (how Microsoftish). I've also realized that I'm winding my warp under too much tension, which is throwing my final dimensions off.
I ended up have enough leftover yarn for another project, so I've already worked out a 90" x 20" shawl (vs my normal 108" x 24") as a gift for a friend. Luckily it is in her colors.
Z got me _The Handweaver's Directory: Over 600 weaves for four-shaft looms_ for Christmas. Am really enjoying looking at these structures, most of which I can already do. I am planning on adding overshot borders as soon as possible.

Hello Folks!
Well it has been awhile and Ihaven't updated. Most of that is because I've been going to school rather than weaving, but I do have several other pictures to post of various projects.

Project with the same yarn as "Free the Weft".

A Shawl I made for RoKhan

A Baby Blanket I made for Tara

A Shawl for the Baroness

Close-up of the Baroness' shawl

The Baroness wearing her shawl

Shawl for Mary at 7 years old

Mary's Mother's Shawl, same colors in a hounds tooth pattern.
I don't have any pictures of the top band I wove for the Guard Ger at Pennsic, but I still have to do another one, so I'll get picture then.
This is my current project, a doubleweave wrap for a Templar friend of mine.

Wrap on the loom

You can't really tell, but this is a double weave project. This means that I'm weaving two layers at once. I'll try to take a better picture later.
I'll get this one done and then start working on the next 8 projects I already have lined up.
More Later
